Helping Hands
We love companies here that go above and beyond with conservation and community enrichment programs. We also love when our clients show interest in getting involved. This package, “Helping Hands” offers travelers the opportunity to just that and at the same time provide a healthy dose of adventure.
Day 1 – Arrival
- Private Transfer Arenal
- Check In Silencio Del Campo
Day 2 – Arenal – (B,L)
- Community Connection - There are few opportunities to get to know the real Costa Rica, but the new Culture, Community & Conservation tour puts clients in direct contact with some of the promising projects happening in and around the area. The visit includes a stop at the Proyecto Asis Animal Rescue Shelter where you'll be treated to an easy 30-minute walk through secondary rainforest. You'll then help feed wild animals such as crocodiles/caimans, wild boars, and monkeys and learn about local efforts to rehabilitate injured, abandoned animals and release them back to their environment, as well as educational programs underway to help prevent hunting and poaching of the surrounding Children’s Rainforest. The next stop is the Luna Nueva organic farm to walk through a medicinal plant garden to learn about “miracle” natural cures like ginger, turmeric and other good-for-you things found right in our backyards. You'll then get a taste of becoming a gourmet organic cook by choosing products straight from the farm and learning how to cook them up in a natural way. NOTE: Proceeds go to support Proyecto Asis and Luna Nueva.
Day 3 – Arenal – (B,D)
- Morning Canopy Tour – SkyTram & SkyTrek - Sky Trek starts with a tour in the Sky Tram to reach the top of the Arenal reserve, then begins a tour of adventure full of adrenaline above the treetops, which consists on a system of zip lines, that allows you to observe the rainforest and its landscape from a different perspective, safely in an innovative and different system.
The tour includes 8 cross-sectional cables that together have a total length of 1.7 miles with distances from 100 to 2460 feet, and with a maximum height of 660 feet, which exceed the treetops providing a panoramic view of the Arenal volcano and lake. NOTE: Skytrek is the first and only Carbon Neutral zipline in Costa Rica
- Liquid Lava Volcano Hike Tour & Eco Termales Hot Springs & Dinner - Hike through lush rainforest with a naturalist guide close to the base of the Arenal Volcano where we wait for sunset at the observation point. As it starts to get dark, on clear nights you can see the amazing lava flow of Central America's most-active volcano. Later, take a relaxing dip in natural hot springs
Day 4 –Arenal - Montezuma
- Shuttle Transfer to Montezuma
- Check In Finca Caballos
Day 5 - Montezuma
- Tortuga Island - Cruising along the coast for a breathtaking 50-minute boat ride is how you’ll begin your voyage to Tortuga Island. Jagged volcanic rock spills into the sea to create a dramatic contrast with the brown sand, red rocks and crushed shells that make up the variety of different beaches along the way. Upon arriving to the tropical paradise of Tortuga Island we anchor the boat within viewing distance of the white sand beach for our first snorkeling session. The crystal waters at Tortuga are surrounded by volcanic rock reef which is home of the best snorkeling site on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific coast. King Angelfish, Porcupine fish, Morays, Needlefish, Spotted Eagle Rays and a myriad of other tropical beauties make for a phenomenal snorkeling experience. Not to mention the oysters your guide might find for a fresh ceviche on the beach!
Day 6 - Montezuma
- Rainforest Rescue Center - Since March of 2005 we have been taking in injured and/or abandoned wildlife. We have also treated and released numerous animals & birds. Those with permanent handicaps are being cared for in comfortable habitats. We spend many hours each day caring for the wildlife in the rescue center. The volunteers help us with this. We are continually in the process of clearing brush, landscaping, and building more animal habitats for the hospital and breeding areas. We have a tremendous amount of work to do, and usually have 6 or more volunteers helping. We can always use more, so please contact us if you would like to help. Our project is unique, so you will have the pleasure of knowing that your efforts have had a major impact on a world renowned project. While you're here, enjoy the nearby beaches, nature tours, waterfalls, and hiking in virgin forest. Learn tropical gardening (biodynamic, permaculture, co-creative...), animal husbandry, camping and treking skills, reflexology, identification and gathering of exotic fruits, wild edibles, and native medicinals, wildlife studies, building natural shelters, and help with learning conversational Spanish.
Volunteers enjoy many free activities: fishing and snorkeling excursions to Isla Cabuya, jungle and waterfall trips, wildlife hikes, and other group activities.
