It is popular because of its expensive white sand beaches backed by rainforest that grows right up to the high tide line. The principal habitants are primary forest, secondary forest, mangrove swamps, lagoons and beach vegetation. There is quite a varied fauna with 109 species of mammals and 184 of birds. The park includes 12 little isles just off the coast; these are a number of dolphins and, at times, migrating whales can be observed.

Day 6 – Heradura – (B)
- Canopy Tour - The Original Canopy Tour offers everyone an exhilarating opportunity to soar through the rain forest high above the forest floor. There you will view jungle life from a perspective previously reserved for a select group of researchers and photographers. As many know Costa Rica has some of the most beautiful rain forests in the world and hiking through the rain forest is definitely a good way to see the forest however a new way of viewing the wildlife has become the trend lately, Canopy Tours. These Canopy Tours were invented because most of the wildlife in the forest is at the canopy level of the forest and what a better way to see it than to be in the Canopy. There are several walkways or skywalks through out Costa Rica that have a bridge strung across a valley where you can walk above the canopy and get a birds eye view of the top of the forest. There is also an aerial tram that is a gondola that slowly motors through the canopy giving the tourist a unique view of the forest. However the most popular form of Canopy Tours is the kind where there are platforms build into the strongest trees and then a zip line is strung in between the trees and tourist are then sent zipping between the trees. You are tied in with a harness and then sent at high speeds from one tree to another until the end of the line and then you allowed to transverse down from the final platform to the ground. It is an adrenalin filled experience and it is definitely for the more adventurous tourist.
Day 7 – Heradura – (B,L)
- Carara National Park Hike - This is the northernmost region of Pacific rainforest remaining in Costa Rica, and is the beginning of the transition zone into the tropical dry forests of the northwest. Carara is one of Costa Rica's National Parks, in somewhat close proximity to San José. Carara is a favorite with bird watchers for several reasons besides its ease of access. First, its position in a transition zone means that residents of both habitats are likely to appear. Second, the Río Grande de Tárcoles has free flowing sections and its waters seep into seasonal marshlands and a shallow oxbow lake covered with hyacinths further expanding number of local habitats. Finally, because it is slightly dryer, and not all of the trees are evergreen, Carara is more open than the rainforests further south making wildlife spotting easier
